Introducing the All-New 2023 Dodge Hornet

September 25th, 2022 by

The all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet features something unique that is making headlines – the R/T PHEV. This is officially the first electrified model from Dodge, although it won’t be the only one for long. Take a closer look at the 2023 Hornet to learn what to expect from a test drive at Massey Yardley.

Crucial Performance Stats

The 2023 Dodge Hornet proves that electric vehicles can deliver exhilarating performance. The R/T trim has 285 horsepower and only needs 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph. Put it in PowerShot boost mode, and this drops to just 5.1 seconds.

The R/T’s powertrain starts with a 1.3-liter turbo all-aluminum GSE engine. Then it adds a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a 90-kW electric induction motor, and a starter generator. This combination of systems delivers 285 horsepower along with 383 pound-feet of torque. You also get a six-speed automatic. That previously mentioned PowerShot adds 25 horsepower and instant torque for 15 seconds. On the track, the Hornet R/T PHEV can reach 128 mph.

Electric Benefits

As a PHEV, the Dodge Hornet R/T also gives you the benefits of an electric car. For example, it can go 30 miles while in EV mode.

Driving Modes

There are three driving modes in the Hornet. Hybrid Mode maximizes efficiency while Electric Mode is all-electric. E-Save Mode preserves the battery charge by using the ICE more. The vehicle also features regenerative braking and e-Coasting.

Non-electric Options

If an electric car isn’t for you, you can opt for the Dodge Hornet GT with a 2.0-liter gas model. Dodge also debuted a Hornet GT GLH Concept offering Direct Connection performance parts.

Exterior Styling

Looking at the 2023 Hornet, it is instantly obvious that it is a Dodge. It has the expected “mail slot” style grille opening on the fascia, aggressive lamp graphics, and integrated heat extractors on the hood. If you choose the R/T version, you also get an illuminated daytime running lights signature and LED reflectors.

From the side, you’ll notice molded-in lower cladding in matte black, along with valances. Together, this ensures it looks very muscular. On the R/T trim, it gets Abyss painted lower cladding. Meanwhile, the rear valance gets integrated dual exhaust ports.

The rear of the 2023 Dodge Hornet has taillamps across its full width, complete with a lighted red signature and an illuminated Dodge Rhombi logo. You’ll also notice the Hornet badge on the fender.

Inside the Cabin

Inside the cabin, you’ll appreciate the driver-focused design of the Hornet. The display screens and center stack are tipped toward you as the driver. Meanwhile, the flat-bottom steering wheel gives it a sporty feel. You’ll also admire the red stitching accents.

Regarding tech, the 2023 Hornet has a 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 system and a standard 12.3-inch digital cockpit cluster screen. Choosing the Track Pack will give you Alcantara seats, complete with the Dodge Rhombi logo embroidered.
